A unique crater in the Highlands

Message from Thrainn Kolbeinsson

When driving along the legendary F228 road into the highlands of Iceland, you'll see this unique red crater around 350 meters (1100 feet) from the road. Looking at it from the ground level is very interesting but if you have a drone, definitely send it!

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A unique looking crater, shaped like a half moon, in the highlands.

  • Best season: Summer.

  • Best time of day: Any.

  • Nice to know: I've never actually walked to it but could be interesting! You'll get the best overview from a drone but it still looks great from the ground.
