The swimming pool was built by volunteers and opened in 1938. For a while it was the biggest swimming pool in Iceland, being 25 meters long, but is now 50 meters long and 12 meters wide. The water in the pool is heated with the geothermal energy and has a warm shallow children's pool and a hot tub. There is also a natural steam bath. The pool is located in a beautiful surrounding with a good shelter.

Swimming pools are an integral part of Icelandic culture and has been ever since people started gathering in natural hot springs in the past. It's where people meet an talk about everything from the weather to politics. Entering one of those pools is really the easiest way to immerse yourself in the local culture.

PS. They're almost all geothermally heated!
