What you’ll do

There's a lot to see and do on Skye and so we designed this action-packed four day itinerary to help you take in all of our favourite sites around this enchanting Isle.

Of course, you don't have to do everything and this itinerary has lots of optional extras should you wish, or things you can miss out if you run out of time (trust us we've been to Skye so many times and still don't manage everything we set out to do).

We also haven't included too many really big hikes, though anyone coming to the island for that will likely know what they want to do on that front. Skye is an unforgiving place when it comes to its wild landscapes, so bigger hikes need to be done with care and planning. We love the Cuillin Hills as well as Bla Bheinn on good days (and they will take the full day).

What you do have though is a mix of epic landscapes, great walks, local haunts, whisky tours and some of our favourite places to stay in the world.

We hope you find this helpful and it helps you make the most of this amazing island.

L&T

Day One on the Isle of Skye starts with a visit to Portree - spend a few hours wandering around this beautiful seaside town, with its coloured houses, lovely shops and great coffee spots.

Portree offers a lot of accomodation options and is a great central base to explore most of the sites on the island.

Once you've enjoyed a bit of Portree and fuelled up or a great walk - head to the Old Man of Storr. Parking is easily signposted (and contactless payment is accepted).

The walk takes around 3-4 hours if you are heading right to the top (and we'd advise you do) - the views are incredible and the photos you'll get will last a lifetime.

Once you've come down for the Old Man of Storr - there are a few sights nearby that are easily reached in a car and don't involve lots of effort to see, other than Brother's Point, which is optional depending on how much light you have on that day. The walk to the headland takes about an hour and is a bit of a hidden gem, but if you don't have time the two waterfalls are easier to see.

We've suggested a range of options for accommodation - each with different price points. Booking in advance is essential for most of these and we'd recommend staying in one place and exploring the island from there by car.
