Bass Rock is a breathtaking landmark located off the coast of East Lothian, Scotland. It's visible from so many places across the coastline but our favourite place to photograph it is from Seacliff beach. A beautiful beach to walk along and also a spot to look back and admire Tantallon Castle.
You can also visit Bass Rock by boat trips from North Berwick where you'll get to see the giant Gannets who call it home up close. Check out the link if you are interested.
Some history:
Dating back to the 15th century, it was one of King James I’s most used prisons, housing political enemies including Walter Stewart. In more recent years, a lighthouse has been constructed on the rock as part of the Firth of Forth Islands Special Protection Area, while St Baldred's Chapel still stands halfway up the island. The place is also known for its gannet colony and famous works of fiction inspired by the ancient ruin.
