Saint Mary and Saint Finnan Church is a stunningly beautiful Roman Catholic church located in Glenfinnan. The church commands an elevated position at the top of a hill overlooking Loch Shiel with its expansive views of the surrounding hills and loch. Not only is the scenic view of the Church breathtaking, but it carries historical significance as well. The church was consecrated in 1873 and has become a memorial chapel dedicated to the Macdonalds, the family with which Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed prior to raising the Jacobite standard in Glenfinnan. The church also contains a memorial to the prince, burial places, and headstones for members of the Macdonald family. Masses are held on Sundays at 1 PM and the church is open daily during sunrise to sunset.
