Eilean Donan Castle is a picturesque castle located on a beautiful small tidal island where three western Scottish sea lochs meet. Featuring in the Bond films it attracts lots of visitors. The car park is open at all times, but check the timetable for visits into the castle itself. You can get great photos just from the car park though.

Some history:

It was originally built in the thirteenth century and has seen a long and fascinating history, including its connection to the Clan Mackenzie, their involvement in the Jacobite risings, and the eventual destruction of the castle in 1719.

In the early twentieth century, the castle was reconstructed by Lieutenant-Colonel John Macrae-Gilstrap, and remains one of Scotland's most iconic sights today. The castle itself offers stunning views over the surrounding landscape and provides an interesting insight into ancient Celtic mythology and its links with Scotland's past.
