Midhope Castle is a 15th century castle that has become even more famous thanks to being the fictional home (Lallybroch) of Jamie Fraser in the TV and book series, Outlander. There is a car park at the drive to the castle and a small price for entry (£5).
Some history:
The castle was originally owned by the Martin family and has witnessed many significant events throughout its history. From 1582, it belonged to Alexander Drummond of Midhope and his wife Marjory Bruce, daughter of Robert Bruce of Airth – who had a stone featuring their initials inscribed on the facade. In 1678, an entrance tower was removed and extended. In addition, a two-chambered oblong dovecot from this period can be found nearby.
