This ornate fountain was created in Sommevoire, France at the iron foundry of Antoine Durenne in 1862. It was subsequently gifted to the City of Edinburgh by gunmaker Daniel Ross that same year. The fountain has been recently renovated, and is perfectly located at the foot of the castle.
