There are several ways to travel from Oslo to the Lofoten Islands, each offering a unique experience. Here are four different options to consider:

1. Flight: The fastest and most convenient way to reach the Lofoten Islands from Oslo is by taking a domestic flight. Airlines such as SAS and Widerøe operate regular flights from Oslo Gardermoen Airport to Leknes Airport or Svolvær Airport in Lofoten. Flights typically take around 1.5 to 2 hours, providing a quick and efficient way to reach the islands. Now the airlines lowered down the price of flight tickets to Lofoten Islands! Making it way cheaper and faster to the tourism.

The Lofoten-Narvik-Harstad-Evenes airport ( yes, the name is too long hehe ) is located 2,5 hours away from Svolvaer and is the cheapest airport to fly to.

There are VERY affordable fares flying with Norwegian Airlines from London Gatwick and Milano. There are new routes from big cities like: Vienna, Zurich, Brussels and Hamburg. Check the website www.flynorwegian.com and the fare calendar to find the cheapest flights to Lofoten-Narvik.

Once in Lofoten-Narvik you should rent a car and drive 2,5 hours to Svolvaer. The heart of Lofoten Islands!

There are busses running from the airport to Svolvaer but I personally do not recomend this as they don't run quite often. The bus number is 300 and it cost 350kr per person.

2. Train and ferry: For a scenic and leisurely journey, you can take a train from Oslo to Bodø, a coastal city in northern Norway. From Bodø, you can then board a ferry operated by Hurtigruten or other ferry companies that sail to various ports in the Lofoten Islands. This option allows you to enjoy stunning coastal views and experience the beauty of Norway's rugged coastline. ( It will take some time to get to Bodø by train from Oslo and also is quite expensive but the experience is absolutely worth it! )

3. Drive: If you prefer the flexibility of having your own vehicle, you can rent a car in Oslo and embark on a road trip to the Lofoten Islands. The drive from Oslo to Lofoten is long but incredibly scenic, taking you through picturesque landscapes, charming towns, and majestic fjords along the way. You can choose to drive the entire route or combine driving with ferry crossings for a more varied journey.

Consider the ferry times and prices on this website

And avoid taking the ferry if you suffer from sea sickness. No, there is not pill who will help you. I am sorry to tell you but Norwegian seas are quite rough especially in winter time and due to bad weather is usually cancelled.
