Kópavogur is Iceland’s second-largest town, but it feels more like a laid-back suburb of Reykjavik — it’s just a 10-minute drive from the city centre. 🏙️ The name means Seal Pup Bay (cute, right?), and while it’s often overlooked by tourists, it’s actually packed with cool spots and local vibes.

One of the town’s highlights is Gerðarsafn Art Museum, which focuses on modern Icelandic art, and the iconic Kópavogskirkja church sitting on the hill with panoramic views. If you’re into swimming, there’s Kópavogslaug, one of the best local pools with hot tubs, slides, and a steam room. 🏊‍♀️

For shopping, check out Smáralind, Iceland’s biggest mall, or wander around Hamraborg for quirky local shops, cafes, and bars. And if you’re a nature lover, Elliðavatn Lake and Heiðmörk Nature Reserve are right on Kópavogur’s doorstep, perfect for hiking and picnicking. 🌿

It’s not as touristy as Reykjavik, but that’s what makes it feel more local. Plus, it’s a great spot to explore if you’re looking for an easy day trip from the capital!
