Bective Abbey, located in Meath along the River Boyne, is a historic site founded in 1147 by King Murchad O’Maeil Sheachlainn for the Cistercian Order. Despite being in ruins, the abbey still stands impressively today and offers visitors a glimpse into its past. With a free admission and a nearby car park, exploring the abbey's architecture and features, like the cloister walk and the mysterious legend of the gold coffin, makes for an intriguing visit. Plus, movie buffs will appreciate its connection to films like Braveheart and The Last Duel.
