Sir Lowry's Pass is an incredible mountain pass located in the Western Cape province of South Africa, between Somerset West and the Elgin valley. It is a winding 4-lane road which navigates through the stunning Hottentots Holland Mountains and offers magnificent views. It has been used as a stock route by the Khoi people and a rough pass called Hottentots Holland Kloof Pass was followed by Dutch and British settlers to cross the mountains here. Construction of the present pass began in 1828 and the road was opened six years later in 1830. An excellently constructed reinforced concrete pass, it remains one of the most beautiful routes in the region and is enjoyed by drivers & hikers alike. For an unforgettable experience in Cape Town, a drive along Sir Lowry's Pass should not be missed!
