Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkon Khiri is a recent temple (there are still elements under construction) that is worth visiting. The element that has made its popularity is its long Burma-style reclining Buddha outside, it is the first element that you see when arriving. Next to his feet, a naga staircase climbs to the Ubosot (ordination room). In the courtyard, a Burmese-style chedi and some Lanna style statues with many details and refined lines. Higher you will find other elements with many Buddhas images. This temple mixes Burmese and Lanna styles and is particularly photogenic. You can easily spend a couple of hours visiting every part of the complex, and because it is not well known and not finished yet, you'll probably be alone there. At the time I was there, there was 2 new buildings in construction, so it will probably get bigger and bigger every year. It makes a good stop from Chiang Mai to Sukhothai or if you're between Phitsanulok and Lampang. There are also a few good stops nearby: Phae Mueang Phi for its rock formation and Wat Phrathat Pu Jae for it's big buddha.
