There are 3 interesting temples very nearby: Wat Chong Kham, Wat Chong Klang, and Wat Hua Wiang. Wat Chong Kham is the most important temple in Mae Hong Son province as it is the first built there in 1797. Next to Wat Chong Kham is Wat Chong Klang where you can see many items crafted by burmese people. These 2 temples form a complex looking very nice especially from the other side of the pond where you can take photos using the reflection of the pond. It's very beautiful especially at night where the 2 temples are illuminated. When I was there in january the pond was in construction so couldn't take that photo, but by now it should be finished already. In this area after 5pm is the night market where you can find some nice street food. The 3rd temple Wat Hua Wiang, you can find it near the morning market in downtown. It's a Burmese Shan style temple very quiet and good also for photo opportunities. You'll probably be alone there. For good food in the area, try Son and Mom restaurant.
