Kamakura-no-Sato is an exciting community initiative located in Iiyama, Japan. It's the perfect place to spend an evening during the winter, and an unforgettable experience for tourists. Every year since 2001, over twenty igloos or “kamakura” snowhouses made of fresh snow are constructed. Inside these houses you can enjoy a hot pot dinner, locally sourced vegetables and meats cooked tableside in lightly flavoured stocks, plus drinks (or bring your own!). The project was started by a passionate local group led by Mr. Miyazawa, and originally involved just five members. Now the team boasts twenty hardworking locals, with most of them being retired local farmers. It truly is a unique way to connect with the local community and appreciate the wonderful snow-capped mountains!
