We conclude the walking route at the festive Christmas market near Port Vell! The name 'Port Vell' literally means 'Old Port', and it is indeed the oldest of the three ports in Barcelona. Port Vell starts at the Columbus Monument and extends to the La Barceloneta neighborhood. On the other side, at the end of Avinguda del Paral·lel, you'll find the ferry terminal and further down, the cruise ship terminal and the industrial port. Before the 1992 Olympic Games, this part of Barcelona needed a significant makeover. In honor of the Games, the port underwent a complete renovation. The vacant buildings around Port Vell were transformed into museums and restaurants. A completely new area was created, featuring the Maremagnum shopping center and a 3D cinema (which is now closed). This area also welcomed L’Aquàrium de Barcelona, one of the most popular aquariums in Spain. The Maremagnum shopping center and the aquarium are connected to the mainland by a striking bridge called the Rambla de Mar. After the transformation, Port Vell became one of the city's most popular attractions. Every Christmas, a charming Christmas market takes place here with beautiful lighting, musical performances, and cozy stalls. The market also includes stalls offering food and drinks.
I hope you enjoyed this route and wish you a wonderful holiday season!
