So, I didn’t actually make it to Lady Knox Geyser on my trip (id seen enough geothermal activity ahah), but it’s definitely an iconic geothermal spots that pops up a lot when people talk about Rotorua. It’s in the Waiotapu area and erupts every day at 10:15 AM. The staff add soap into the vent to make it blow, and apparently, this was first discovered by some well-behaved prisoners doing laundry back in the day.
The geyser shoots water up to 20 meters high, and the whole thing lasts for over an hour, creating a cool white, cone-shaped formation from all the silica buildup. It costs around $45 for an adult to visit the geyser and the surrounding park, so definitely check it out if you're keen on seeing this unique show!
