Mount Damper Falls is one of those spots that makes you stop and go, "Wow, this is adorable." It’s a tall waterfall, but the stream that powers it is tiny, and when the sun’s out, you’ll likely see a big, beautiful rainbow forming at the base. It's seriously the definition of cute.
That said, getting there isn’t the easiest. You’ll need to drive down a sketchy gravel road that’s pretty thin, yep, classic New Zealand roads lol. It's about a 40-minute detour one way from the motorway, so only hit this up if you’ve got extra time on your hands.
Once you make it to the carpark, it’s a quick 1-kilometer walk to the lookout platform (2 kilometers total, return). The waterfall is an impressive 74 meters tall, and the trail takes you through farmland where you’ll probably see some cute sheep before it enters the bush. There are two viewing platforms, so you get different perspectives of the falls. Make sure to respect private property, close gates behind you, and stick to the track.
