Hike from Falcade to Casera di Focobon: A Secret Spot

The hike from Falcade to Casera di Focobon is a must for anyone who loves stunning landscapes and peaceful mountain trails. But for me, the real magic happens about 500 meters before you reach the hut. --> Please do not share the exact place directly on your socials

The Wooden Bridge: The Highlight of the Hike

Just before arriving at Casera di Focobon, you’ll come across a beautiful wooden bridge that crosses a small mountain stream (bridge). In my opinion, this is the absolute highlight of the hike. The setting is picture-perfect: the clear, rushing water, the rustic charm of the bridge, and the towering Dolomites in the background.

If you’re into photography, you’ll want to spend some extra time here. I found myself experimenting with different angles and compositions—it’s the kind of spot where you could easily lose track of time.

Reaching the Hut and Another Bridge

When you continue to the Casera, you’ll be standing almost directly beneath the imposing peaks of the Dolomites (Point 2 on the Komoot map). The views here are breathtaking, so plan to relax and enjoy the scenery. Near the hut (Casera Focobon), there’s another small bridge. While I didn’t find it as photogenic as the first one, it’s still worth exploring if you have time.

Photography Tips

If you’re planning to capture the stream and bridge in all its glory, here are a few tips:

  • Bring a tripod and an ND filter: These will help you create that smooth, dreamy effect with the water (longexposure).

  • Use a CPL filter: It’s great for reducing reflections on the water surface, making your photos pop even more.

  • Take your time: This spot is worth the effort, play around with different shutter speeds and angles to get the perfect shot.

  • Sunrise / Sunset: I visited the spot during sunset, but it wasn’t ideal since the sun sets behind the mountain, leaving the valley in shadow quite quickly. However, sunrise there must be absolutely spectacular, as the mountains get beautifully illuminated. If you’re planning to go early in the morning or late in the evening, don’t forget your headlamp—the trail goes through parts of the forest that can get dark quickly.

This hike isn’t just about the destination, it’s about the journey and the incredible photo opportunities along the way. If you love nature and photography, I can’t recommend it enough. Let me know how it goes, and don’t forget your filters! 😊
