Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is stunning and the best way to experience its beauty is by getting out on the water. One company offers two different options for getting up close to the floating icebergs and glacier tongue's edge:
Zodiac Tour
This is a more adventurous tour, as you sail around floating icebergs in one of Iceland's most stunning landscapes. You'll cover large areas of the lagoon and get closer to the icebergs than the amphibian tour. When possible the Zodiac goes almost up to the glacier (as close as safe).
ATTENTION: Check-in is 30 minutes before departure on the Zodiac tour.
Children must be over 130 cm / 4'3" to join the zodiac tour (approximately 10 years old).
Passengers are provided with flotation suits and a life jacket.
Available from May - October
Amphibian Boat Tour
This is a family friendly, short, but exciting, boat trip on the lagoon in one of four amphibian boats. During the excursion, you sail among the huge icebergs in the picturesque scenery of Jökulsárlón. On the boat, you get to taste the 1000-year-old ice and if you are lucky you might even see some seals.
The excursion takes 30–40 minutes and includes an English-speaking guide who explains to you the geology and facts of the lagoon. Other languages may be offered upon request.
Available from May - mid-November
I recommend the Zodiac tour over the Amphibian tour but there is also a kayaking tour on the lagoon which is also really great!
