White Pocket is technically across the border from southern Utah in Arizona, but it's close enough that I wanted to include it in this guide. Getting out to White Pocket requires navigating an EXTREMELY sandy 4WD road. You NEED a vehicle with high-clearance and 4WD capabilities (we saw a sedan get stuck just beyond a sign warning not to continue without 4WD). There's some dispersed camping available at the trailhead (my husband and I were able to bring our Hiker Trailer out, which is equipped to handle rough roads).

Once you're out at White Pocket you can really hike and explore at your leisure. There's no official trail, and it's open enough that I think it's hard to get lost (with that said, I always track hikes with my phone and watch just in case!). Be prepared with plenty of water, snacks, and a sense of adventure to fully enjoy this off-the-beaten-path destination.

Bathrooms?: Pit toilets are available at the trailhead.

Dog-Friendly?: Yes, but I would not recommend visiting with a dog during the summer.

Best Time of Year to Visit: Spring, Fall, and Winter
