Fantail Falls, located only a few minutes' walk from the main road between Wānaka and Haast, is a beautiful waterfall in the heart of the stunning Mount Aspiring National Park. The picturesque Haast River flows around the crytal-clear falls, which reaches an impressive 23 metres high! With its dense subtropical forest, it's easy to see why this area is so popular with tourists - as well as why they've nicknamed the waterfall after the iconic New Zealand fantail bird! The journey to the falls is an easy one, and the area is full of spiritual magic, characterised by the plethora of stacked stones (cairns) you'll find on the grounds. It's important to remember to bring insect repellent though, as the sandflies can be quite fierce! This is one destination you simply must not miss during your trip!
