Ericeira is a surfers' paradise just 30 minutes away from Lisbon by car. In October 2011, it was attributed the status of 'World Surfing Reserve', something unprecedented in Europe. There are currently only nine world surfing reserves globally. Ericeira was acknowledged for seven surf spots along a 4 km stretch, characterized by its high density of surf breaks, wave quality, and unique environment.
Ericeira's most central beach is Praia dos Pescadores ("Fishermen's beach"), located in its historic center. This is the place where then King Manuel II flew into exile with the Portuguese royal family in 1910 after the proclamation of the republic in the country in October 5th.
The nearby cliffs, blue waters and typical architecture (white and blue painted houses) is really something to see!
Ericeira has over 10 magnificent beaches and is a village worth exploring!
