Vila Real de Santo António is a planned city located right at the border with Spain, next to the Guadiana river. This is one of the corners of the country.
It was conceptualized by Marquês de Pombal ("Marquis of Pombal") afther the 1755 earthquake and was subject to the same engineering, architectural and construction methods implemented in the reconstruction of Lisbon.
We spent one day and one night here on our way to Southern Spain, which was an amazing stopover!
Seafood is amazing in this part of the country!
