Horsetail Falls in near South Lake Tahoe, just off hwy 50, is a series of cascades and plunges along Pyramid Creek near South Lake Tahoe and is about a 4 mile round-trip moderate hike. It drops a total of 791 feet over six steps, with the tallest drop measuring 483 feet. The falls are fed by numerous lakes in Desolation Valley, ensuring a steady flow year-round. Despite its impressive beauty, Horsetail Falls often flies under the radar compared to more popular waterfalls in Yosemite. Located just off Highway 50, it's definitely worth a visit for any waterfall enthusiast looking for a stunning natural spectacle outside of the usual tourist hotspots. There is a small parking fee. Bring along your bathing suit for a refreshing dip in the heat of Summer. Take caution in the spring as fast moving water can be very hazardous.
