I wasn’t planning to include Butchart Gardens since it’s one of the most well-known spots on Vancouver Island, but it does have some standout features worth mentioning. Yes, it gets crowded, especially in summer, and the entrance fee isn’t cheap, but if you time it right, the experience can be well worth it.
The best time to visit is mid-October when the Japanese Garden glows with autumn colours. Spring mornings are another great option, especially when fog drifts through the gardens, adding a dreamy atmosphere. No matter the season, arriving first thing in the morning is key—before the crowds arrive and the place fills up.
Butchart might be a tourist hotspot, but if you catch it at the right time, it’s easy to see why it’s been a favourite for over a century.
