Hvolsvöllur is a small town in the southeastern part of Iceland with a population of 1,036. The name literally translates to "Hillfield" and references the historic farm Stórólfshvoll located nearby. This quaint little town is only 106 km from Reykjavík, making it a great spot for travelers looking to take in Iceland's beautiful scenery. One highlight of this destination is the Stórólfshvolskirkja, an interesting Protestant church built in 1930 that can hold up to 120 people. The interior was painted in 1955, and over the altar hangs a painting by renowned Icelandic painter Þórarin B. Þorláksson from 1914 depicting Jesus blessing the children. It's a nice and peaceful spot to visit, away from the crowds.
