Svartifoss is a unique and beautiful waterfall located in Skaftafell, part of the greater Vatnajökull National Park in Iceland. Aptly named ‘Black Falls’ due to its surrounding hexagonal basalt columns, Svartifoss has long been a source of inspiration for artists and architects, from Hallgrímskirkja church in Reykjavík to Richard Sierra’s work on Viðey Island. Despite being just 20 meters tall, it remains one of Iceland's most popular waterfalls. Those visiting Svartifoss can expect an unforgettable experience; the hike from the Skaftafell Visitors’ Centre to the falls takes about 30 minutes, with plenty of incredible natural sights along the way.
