Lower Slaughter is a charming, picturesque village located in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England. With its delightful 16th and 17th century limestone homes and the 19th century water mill with an undershot waterwheel, it makes for a perfect holiday destination. Lower Slaughter is made up of two side separated by the slow-moving River Eye, which can be crossed using two footbridges or the ford at the west end of the village. The village was named after the Old English term “slough” meaning “wet land”, and has been inhabited for over 1,000 years. Tourists come from afar to get a glimpse of the pretty old buildings and the lush surrounding countryside. The local parish church here is 13th century Anglican and dedicated to St Mary the Virgin, and has much of its current structure rebuilt 1867 on plans by architect Benjamin Ferrey.
