Dunseverick Castle is a historic ruin situated near the village of Dunseverick, approximately three miles east of the Giant's Causeway , located on the north coast of County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It occupies a prominent position on a headland overlooking the North Atlantic Ocean.

The castle has ancient origins, with evidence suggesting that a fort or settlement existed on the site as far back as the early Christian period. Over the centuries, the site has seen various phases of construction and use, including Viking occupation.

The name "Dunseverick" is of Viking origin, The Vikings were known to have established a settlement and fortification at Dunseverick.

The medieval castle that once stood at Dunseverick was strategically important for controlling coastal access. It likely served as a residence for local rulers and as a defensive structure.

Today, only the ruins of Dunseverick Castle remain. You can explore the remnants of the castle, including parts of the stone walls and foundations, which provide insight into its historical significance.

The Castle is often included in coastal walks along the Causeway Coastal Route. Dunseverick Castle is the start of the Causeway Coastal trail leading to Hamilton’s seat and The Amphitheatre (one of my favourite coastal trails in Northern Ireland ).

Dunseverick Castle is relatively close to the Giant's Causeway, so you should include both sites into your day trip when exploring the Causeway Coast.
