Morcote is a village that exudes beauty at every turn, with its charming streets offering you a chance to experience the true essence of Ticino. This is one of my favourite street locations. I encourage you to enjoy wandering the little alleys too! Here’s just some of the streets I suggest you check out!

💦Via al Lago: The Lakeside Stroll

The main street in Morcote, Via al Lago, runs along the edge of Lake Lugano. This charming lakeside promenade is one of the most beautiful streets in the village, with the tranquil waters just steps away. Lined with centuries-old buildings, the street features a combination of rustic stone houses and elegant villas, giving it a timeless appeal. As you walk along Via al Lago, you’ll pass lovely cafes and restaurants with terraces where you can sit and enjoy a coffee or a meal. The street also leads to the Morcote Marina, where boats gently bob in the water, enhancing the charm of this serene location.

🌿Via delle Scuole: A Step Back in Time

For those seeking a more historic path, Via delle Scuole is a street that takes you through the heart of Morcote’s past. The name itself means “School Street,” and it leads from the lakeside promenade up to the Church of Santa Maria del Sasso. This narrow cobblestone street winds through the village, offering glimpses of traditional stone houses, vibrant gardens, and lush greenery. The street climbs gently, giving you stunning views of the village and the lake below. At the top of the street, you’ll find the Church of Santa Maria del Sasso, one of the most significant landmarks in Morcote.

🍇Via Ceresio: The Hidden Gem

One of the more secluded and charming streets in Morcote is Via Ceresio, which offers an off-the-beaten-path experience. This quiet street takes you away from the busier lakeside areas, passing through peaceful gardens and vineyards. The street is bordered by quaint homes and rustic buildings, many of which boast classic wooden shutters and terracotta roofs. You’ll also notice the occasional flower-filled balcony or well-maintained vegetable garden, adding to the village's charm. Via Ceresio is a wonderful place to explore the quieter side of Morcote while soaking in the stunning surrounding scenery.

⛪️Via San Michele: A Journey through History

For those looking to immerse themselves in the history of the village, Via San Michele is a must-visit. This narrow, winding street starts near the Morcote Cemetery and leads up to the Morcote Mausoleum, a monument that is dedicated to the prominent families of the area. Along the way, you’ll pass several historic houses and old churches, each with its own story to tell.

The street has a sense of nostalgia, with its ancient stone buildings, cobblestone pathways, and the sound of birds chirping in the background. The higher you walk, the more impressive the views become.

📸Via Sant’Abbondio: The Gateway to Tranquility

Another beautiful street in Morcote is Via Sant’Abbondio, a quiet and tranquil pathway that leads to the Monastery of San Abbondio, a hidden gem in the village. This street is lined with lush greenery, small villas, and olive groves, creating an almost Mediterranean feel. At the end of Via Sant’Abbondio, you’ll be greeted by the Monastery of San Abbondio.
