Aoraki Mt Cook National Park is one of the most beautiful regions in New Zealand. It is the perfect base for plenty of scenic walks and sightseeing. Stay in Mt Cook village with accommodation for all budgets, or camp at White Horse Hill DOC campground.

There are plenty of walks to do in the National Park: Hooker Valley is a must-do; Mueller Hut is for a longer trip; Kea Point is best at sunset; Tasman lake is great for sunrise; Governors and Bowen Bush walk are good for a rainy day; Sealy Tarns are steep but rewarding. Treat yourself to a special activity like a glacial landing in a skiplane, or taking a zodiac boat to the terminal face of Tasman glacier.

Remember: Always drive safely. There are a few popular photo locations along the road to Aoraki, avoid running along the road, particularly when there is a lot of traffic. Be courteous to other road users.

Personal tip: Aoraki Mt Cook National Park is absolutely magical in both summer and winter. In summer, you will likely see icebergs floating on Hooker Lake and Tasman Lake which have fallen off the glaciers. In winter, you may be lucky to witness the park in snow (yay), or you may get caught in a rainstorm (boo)! I recommend staying in this area for a few days to explore all the scenic tracks and ensure you have contingency for weather.

Pronunciation: Aoraki - ow-raa-kee
