The Japanese Friendship Bell is a large bronze bell located in San Diego's Shelter Island. It was a gift from the people of Yokohama, Japan to the people of San Diego to celebrate the two cities' long-standing relationship and friendship.

The bell is housed in a traditional pagoda-style structure and is surrounded by a tranquil garden with a koi pond, Japanese cherry blossom trees, and a number of other traditional Japanese elements. The structure was designed by Japanese architect Kazuo Motohashi and was dedicated in 1978.

The bell itself weighs over 5 tons and is 6 feet tall and 12 feet in circumference. It is adorned with intricate designs and Japanese characters that represent peace and friendship. The bell is rung by striking it with a wooden log, known as a "banger," which hangs nearby.

The Japanese Friendship Bell is considered to be a symbol of peace and friendship between the United States and Japan, and is a popular attraction for both locals and tourists. It is also a popular location for weddings, and visitors are welcome to ring the bell for good luck and to celebrate the spirit of friendship.
