Sensoji, also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple, is a vibrant and popular Buddhist temple in Tokyo's Asakusa district. Legend has it that the temple was built in 645 to honor the goddess of mercy, Kannon, after two brothers found a statue of her in the Sumida River. Visitors can enter through the iconic Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) and stroll down Nakamise shopping street before reaching the main hall and five-storied pagoda. The temple hosts various events throughout the year, including the lively Sanja Matsuri festival in May.
