Plans for the park emerged in the late 1980s after the cancellation of the Westway highway project.
The park was established in 1998 and built in phases alongside the construction of the West Side Highway through the 2000s and 2020s.
It connects other landmarks like The Battery to the south and Riverside Park to the north.
5-mile bike and pedestrian path runs the entire length of the park, one of the busiest bikeways in the U.S.
Sports facilities include tennis courts, soccer fields, basketball courts, a skate park, and playgrounds.
Piers along the park offer fishing, kayaking, outrigger canoeing, sailing, and other water activities.
The Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex has indoor facilities like ice rinks and rock climbing.
Chelsea Waterside Park has sports fields, courts, a playground, and dog run.
Pier 26 features swing benches and open spaces for relaxation.
Pier 40 has tennis courts and a boathouse for free rowing and boat building.
The park runs along the Hudson River Greenway on Manhattan's West Side.
It connects various neighborhoods like Battery Park City, West Village, Chelsea, and Hudson Yards.
Easily accessible by public transit, with nearby subway stations and the NYC Ferry.
