The Arco della Pace in Milan is an impressive architectural structure that symbolizes peace. It was originally built on the orders of Napoleon Bonaparte to commemorate his war victories, but its purpose changed when it was reopened in 1826 on the orders of Franz Josef I of Austria as a tribute to the peace between the leading European powers. Standing at 25 metres tall and made from Baveno granite, the Arco della Pace is a stunning example of neoclassical design, with three majestic arches supported by eight Corinthian columns, and has numerous low reliefs depicting scenes of Roman mythology, Hercules and Apollo, as well as events during the Concert of Europe. Despite its age, the Arco della Pace still inspires awe today, making it a must-visit attraction while in Milan.
