Kifune-jinja Shrine, nestled in the village of Kibune in Kyoto, is one of my favorite spots in Kyoto for a serene and mystical experience. Known for its picturesque stone steps adorned with red lanterns, this shrine is dedicated to the god of water. Legend has it that a goddess arrived in Kibune on a yellow boat, marking the spot where the shrine now stands. Make sure to try their unique water omikuji fortunes, and embark on a scenic hike to Kurama village. Don't miss the chance to dine on kawadoko decks overlooking the rushing Kibune River for a truly unforgettable experience if you are visiting in summer (May - September)
