Things to Plan

  1. Length of Trip

    • Determine Trip Duration: Decide on a 7-10 day trip to balance exploration and relaxation. This duration allows you to visit multiple islands without feeling rushed and ensures you get the best value from your travel costs.

  2. Set a Budget

    • Daily Expenses: Calculate daily expenses for accommodation, food, activities, and transport. Allocate extra funds for emergencies. It really depends on your lifestyle and on the activities you want to do - overall, the local islands, food, accomodation and transports are cheap!!

  3. Secure Flights

    • Advance Booking: Book flights 3-6 months in advance for better deals. Use flight comparison websites like Skyscanner, Google Flights, and Kayak. Subscribe to fare alerts and consider flying mid-week for lower prices.

  4. Apply for Visas

    • Visa Requirements: Most nationalities receive a free 30-day visa on arrival. Verify visa requirements based on your nationality. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from the date of entry.

    • You have to fill in the "Traveller Declaration" (IMUGA https://imuga.immigration.gov.mv/) before entering and leaving the country.

  5. Create Itinerary

    • Plan Activities: Outline your daily activities, including specific times for surfing in Thulusdhoo and diving in Rasdhoo. Factor in travel times between islands. Use my already planned itineraries to have everything sorted or my guide to have more inspiration.

  6. Book Accommodation

    • Budget Options: Look for guesthouses, hostels, or locally-run inns. Websites like Booking.com, Hostelworld, and Airbnb offer affordable options. Check reviews and ratings to ensure quality and safety. In my guide you can find lots of nice, safe and budget-friendly accommodations.

  7. Travel Insurance

    • Comprehensive Coverage: Purchase travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and adventure sports. Companies like World Nomads and Revolut offer policies tailored to travelers’ needs. I used Revolut plan paying 10$ per month.
