Chäserrugg is an iconic mountain located in the canton of St Gallen, Switzerland, with an elevation of 2262 metres above sea-level. It's part of the Churfirsten range. At the top, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding Appenzell Alps.
HOW TO GET THERE:
Take the Iltiosbahn funicular from Unterwasser to Iltios then jump on the cable car to Chäserugg. In summer you can even hike up if you wish to skip the cable car.
This place can be visited both winter and summer, the views on the top to the Alps in both direction is crazy.
Winter hike details:
Start at the cable car station. It is marked with pink sign, number 150 called Rosenboden - Panoramaweg. Distance is 3 km with 160 meters of elevation. It can take approximately 1 hour to complete the hike. There is a restaurant at the cable car station where you can rest and enjoy a meal inside. You can also ski in Chäserugg.
Summer hike :
You can enjoy the trails as far as you wish in summer. There is no limit. Highly recommend to check Switzerland mobility for trails options.
One great option is the Churfisten Weg. Marked with number 950. Start at Alp Sellamatt cable car station and arrive Gamsalp cable car station. Distance will be 10 km with 1100 meters of elevation gain. The hike can be completed in 4h 30 mins.
TIP: in the late autumn months and winter you can find sea of clouds down below you which is truly and incredible sight.
