Scurdie Ness Lighthouse, located on the South side of the River South Esk estuary in Montrose, Angus, Scotland, was built in 1870 to prevent shipwrecks and loss of life along the coast. The lighthouse, constructed by David Stevenson, stands at 39 meters tall and has a distinctive white tower with a black lantern. It was automated in 1987 and now emits three white flashes every 20 seconds, visible up to 23 nautical miles away. The area is known for its geological significance, with agates formed in the lava rocks around Scurdie Ness. Visitors can enjoy a scenic walk to the lighthouse, spotting seals, dolphins, and sometimes even whales in the surrounding waters. The word Scurdie is a local word for volcanic. she stands an impressive 39 metres high, 170 steps to the summit and has a reach of 23 nautical miles.
