Hirome Market in Kochi is a lively spot where you can find a huge variety of food stalls and plenty of local flavor with about 60 vendors. It’s known for its relaxed, communal vibe, with long tables where people gather to eat and drink. The market has a welcoming and casual atmosphere, making it a great place to explore.
The standout dish here is katsuo no tataki—bonito seared over an open flame. It’s served with garlic, ginger, and ponzu, and you can often watch it being prepared fresh. Other stalls offer everything from crispy karaage to dumplings and desserts like yuzu-flavored ice cream.
When I visited, I spent a good chunk of time moving between stalls, trying small portions from different vendors
