Hengifoss is one of the most incredible waterfalls in all of Iceland. Standing at 128 meters, it is the third tallest waterfall in the country, located in the municipality of Fljõtsdalshreppur in East Iceland. It is surrounded by layers of basaltic strata and thin red clay layers, plus fossilized trees from a much warmer period. A popular hiking trail leads up to the waterfall and can be reached with approximately 50 minutes of walking from the nearby parking lot. Other attractions nearby include Litlanesfoss and Skriðuklaustur, both with stunning views. Travelers will love visiting this amazing natural site, so if you're looking for a great adventure, add Hengifoss to your itinerary!
