• Distance: The Ring Road is approximately 1,332 kilometers (828 miles) long, encircling the entire island.

• Time: While it’s possible to drive the Ring Road in 5-7 days, most travelers take 8-10 days to explore more leisurely, allowing time to visit waterfalls, glaciers, national parks, and charming towns along the way.

• Drive Time: Non-stop, the Ring Road can be completed in around 16-18 hours, but given the numerous attractions and scenic spots along the route, plan for a much longer duration to enjoy everything Iceland has to offer.

The Ring Road is mostly paved and well-maintained, making it accessible for most vehicles. However, always check road conditions, especially during winter or early spring, as some roads may be closed due to snow or weather conditions. While the fees are generally low, they can add up over the course of your trip, especially if you plan to visit many major attractions.

Finding Fuel and Grocery Stores Along Iceland's Ring Road

Iceland’s Ring Road is well-equipped with essential services, including fuel stations and grocery stores.

Fuel stations are generally located in most towns and along major towns on the Ring Road. However, there are stretches of the road—especially in remote areas like the East Fjords or certain parts of the Highlands—where fuel stations can be few and far between. Common fuel stations include N1, Orkan, and Olís, and they often have self-service pumps, which are easy to use.

Grocery stores can be found in most larger towns and towns along the Ring Road. In cities like Reykjavik, Akureyri, and Vik, you'll find well-stocked supermarkets, including Bonus, Krónan, and Netto, offering a wide range of food at affordable prices. We found ourselves passing a grocery story at least once a day making it easy to stock up on food throughout the trip.

Remember that stores are typically closed on Sundays or during holidays in smaller villages, so plan your grocery stops accordingly.
