Yes, there is a large forest in Iceland! Well, large considering that there are not many trees or forests here. This national forest covers over 740 hectares and most of the trees are native birch.

There are over 40 kilometers of hiking routes and marked trails, camp sites, open spaces and playgrounds. You will have enough space to room around and explore if you decide to stop here.

I especially love visiting the Arboretum, which has a collection of around 80 tree species from all over the world!

If you are bird lover, then this forest will intrigue you because it provides food, protection from predators, and nest sites for different bird species. Some birds you might see year round are redpoll, wren, goldcrest, ptarmigan, and raven. During the summer, more birds arrive, such as redwings, snipes, and meadow pipits along with woodcocks and wagtails.
