WARNING, PLEASE READ BEFORE ATTEMPTING: The Earnslaw Burn Track in the Glenorchy area of Otago is a challenging tramping track that takes you through bush to a stunning viewpoint with views of an icefall on Mt Earnslaw. The 25km return track requires river crossings, route finding skills, and caution in severe weather. It's not recommended for young children, and river crossings can be dangerous in heavy rain. This path is no longer maintained, so expect there to be a lot of down trees, and many side paths going around fallen debris. Expect to take 6-7 hours each way, and even longer in poor conditions. This is not recommended for beginner hikers. If you would like to visit this area but can't hike, you can take a helicopter tour into this valley.
