Climbing Volcán Santiaguito in Guatemala is an adventure like no other. Not only does this active lava dome erupt every few hours, but it also requires a grueling 8 hour hike with heavy trekking backpacks up the steep slopes of neighboring Santa Maria Volcano before reaching the volcanic vent. Reaching the summit gives adventurers access to incredible sights as they witness the volcano’s powerful display of ash & rocks thrown up into the sky. At night, campers can see bats flying around them and even get their share of volcanic snowfall. When morning comes, those brave enough can scramble down to meet the volcano face-to-face!
