Brescia is a city located in the region of Lombardy, in Northern Italy. It's just an hour trip from Milan (one way regional train ticket price is about €8).

If you're looking for a day trip from Milan, Brescia could be your destination.

It has many interesting sights like:

  • Piazza della Loggia: a stunning Renaissance square with the Palazzo della Loggia, the town hall.

  • Capitolium of Brixia & Roman Theatre, which is a UNESCO-listed Roman archaeological site. It includes a well-preserved temple and ruins of an ancient theatre.

  • Santa Giulia Museum: Another UNESCO World Heritage site, it has incredible exhibits from Roman, Lombard, and medieval times.

  • Brescia Castle: A medieval fortress located on Cidneo Hill, from here you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city and explore the museum inside.

  • Old and New Cathedrals (Duomo Vecchio & Duomo Nuovo): The Duomo Vecchio (Rotonda) is a rare circular Romanesque church, while the Duomo Nuovo is grand and baroque.

If you're not looking to do a day trip to Brescia, but want to make it the base for your trip, I have a few tips.

The area around Brescia is stunning and also famous for its vineyards. The area between Lake Iseo and Brescia is known as Franciacorta, where you can taste delicious wine.

From Brescia you can easily reach Lake Iseo or also Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake.
