The Piazza del Campidoglio is a stunning landmark situated atop the Capitoline Hill, one of Rome’s seven ancient hills. Since its development in 1536, this iconic square has captivated visitors with its impressive design and features. Commissioned by Pope Paul III and designed by Michelangelo, the square is characterized by a beautiful bronze equestrian statue of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius at its centerpiece. The statue is a copy of the original statue, that's located in the Capitoline Museums. In addition to the sculpture, guests are treated to the view of another angle of St. Peter’s Basilica and can explore nearby attractions such as the outstanding Capitoline Museums and the legendary Capitoline Wolf sculpture situated between the Palazzo Senatorio and Palazzo Nuovo. With its interesting history and fascinating sights, it’s easy to see why the Piazza del Campidoglio remains a popular traveler destination.

A must-visit square right in the heart of Rome
