Q’eswachaka Rope Bridge, also known as Queshuachaca, is the last remaining Inca rope bridge located in Peru. Made of grass ropes, it spans the Apurímac River near Huinchiri. Despite a modern bridge nearby, locals maintain the ancient tradition by renewing the bridge annually in June. The rebuilding process involves several community groups coming together to weave new ropes and deck mats for the bridge. This cultural event honors their ancestors and the Earth Mother, Pachamama. The bridge collapsed in 2021 due to lack of maintenance during the COVID-19 pandemic but was quickly rebuilt.
