Protection Mountain is a 72 site campground on the Bow Valley Parkway, conveniently located between Banff and Lake Louise. It is an open campground, with very few trees. It's less private than others but the views of the surrounding mountains are great, however.
Facilities are on the basic side, with no showers (flush toilets though). Not all of the sites have fire pits so keep that in mind when choosing a site.
All 72 sites are reservable in advance via the Parks Canada website, with reservations opening in January.
A Parks Canada parks pass is required in Banff National Park ($22/day for a vehicle of up to 7 people).
